Thundery showers in northern, western and eastern areas in the afternoon. Keep an umbrella handy.

Good to know

  • Inter-monsoon

April–May and October–November bring light, changeable winds and plenty of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Keep the umbrella in your bag.

  • When haze visits

Haze from regional fires can reach Singapore in the drier months, usually between about June and October, but not every year. Check the air quality card before outdoor plans rather than judging by the sky.

More weather tips (6)
  • What “thundery showers” means

NEA says thundery showers when rain comes with thunder and lightning: short, heavy, often in the afternoon. “Showers” alone is rain without the drama. If you hear thunder, head indoors; a tree is not shelter.

  • Why it rains after lunch

The morning sun heats the island, clouds build, and showers often arrive between about 2 and 6 PM. Mornings are usually your dry window.

  • Northeast Monsoon

Roughly December to early March. Expect wet, windy spells in December and January, then a drier, breezier late stretch.

  • Southwest Monsoon

Roughly June to September, usually our drier half, though “Sumatra squalls” can sweep in before dawn with heavy rain and strong gusts. Close the windows at night.

  • Seven to seven

Near the equator, the sun rises around 7 AM and sets around 7 PM all year, within about 20 minutes either way. Handy for planning a morning walk.

  • Hot and sticky days

High humidity makes it harder for sweat to cool you. On hot afternoons take shade breaks, drink water regularly and ease off hard exercise. NEA’s heat stress advisory says when to take extra care.
